Tina Turner, The Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll

Stay with us to the end as this article on Tina Turner has a point at the bottom of it that you can apply immediately to your business or in life, as Tina did.

What’s in a brand name? For Anna Mae Bullock, it was everything, and for a company it’s everything. We know her better as Tina Turner, the American-born Swiss singer and actress. She has been rightly referred to as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” rising to prominence as the lead singer of “Ike & Tina Turner” before launching a successful career as a solo performer. Turner began her career with Ike Turner’s “Kings of Rhythm” in 1957. She is currently 82 years young and DIT Web Solutions would like greatly thank Tina for her LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENTS!

It wasn’t all roses when she started, as has been well documented.
In 1960, she was introduced as “Tina Turner,” with the hit duet single, “A Fool in Love.” Ike & Tina Turner became quite the duo! Together, they released hits such as, “It’s Going to Work out Fine,” “River Deep—Mountain High,” “Proud Mary,” and “Nutbush City Limits,” before breaking up in 1976.

On July first, 1976, they had a physical altercation. Tina fled to a friend’s house, and to fast forward the story, divorced Ike, escaping the abusive relationship she was in. During an interview with Oprah, she was asked about “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” Turner responded, “Endurance,” adding, “You know, let’s find a word for it if endurance isn’t it. I endured hardship all the way. It was stay on course. Stay focused. Never smoking. Never drinking. Never doing drugs. My legacy is that I stayed on course…from the beginning to the end, because I believed in something inside of me.”

“That told me that it can get better, or you can make something better, and that I wanted better.” Turner added. “So, my legacy is a person that strived for wanting it better and got it.” Tina ensured as part of her divorce that she would have her name, her brand and she got it.

Oh, I really like this lady! She disconnected from what we call a “toxic relationship” and she grabbed hold of her brand, and pushed it to the stars.

Read on the see what happened after this:

In the 1980s, Turner launched one of the greatest comebacks in music history. Her 1984 multi-platinum album “Private Dancer,” contained the hit song “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” which won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year,”and became her first and only #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. At age 44, she was the oldest female solo artist to ever top the Hot 100. Her chart success continued with “Better Be Good to Me,” “Private Dancer,” “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome),” “Typical Male,” “The Best,” “I Don’t Wanna Fight,” and “Golden Eye.”
What a list!

During her “Break Every Rule” World Tour in 1988, she set a then-Guinness World Record for the largest paying audience (180,000) for a solo performer. Turner also acted in the films “Tommy” (1975), “Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome” (1985), “Last Action Hero,” and “What’s Love Got to Do with It” both in 1993.

In 2009, Turner retired after completing her “Tina!: 50th Anniversary Tour,” which is the 15th highest-grossing tour of the 2000s. In 2018, she became the subject of the jukebox musical “Tina.”

Having sold over 100 million records worldwide, Turner is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. She has received 12 Grammy Awards, 3 Grammy Hall of Fame awards, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She was the first black artist, and first female to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone ranked her among the 100 Greatest Artists and Singers of All Time.Turner has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the St. Louis Walk of Fame. She is also a two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with Ike Turner in 1991, and again as a solo artist in 2021. She is also a 2005 recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors and Women of the Year Award.

WOW!!! Just WOW!

Ok here are some major lessons we can all apply to our businesses:

  1. Obviously, have a great product.
  2. “Stay on course. Stay focused. Never smoking. Never drinking. Never doing drugs. My legacy is that I stayed on course…from the beginning to the end, because I believed in something inside of me.”
  3. Isolate your brand. Keep it. Promote it.
  4. Locate anything or anyone on your business lines that may be “toxic” to you or your employees.  It’s best not to have these type of connections draining your energy and creativity. This could be an employee, supplier, customer, etc. We have all witnessed having an “Ike” in our vicinity and how that affects us or our business. As well as the reverse, when these types are removed from the company lines, there will be resulting relief and up statistics that follow!
  5. Attract attention: In addition to her great music, Tina’s brand included her hair, her attire, her overall look and resulted in Attracting Attention! She currently has 6.6 million followers on Facebook.

If you don’t have your brand isolated, we can first conduct Market Research and a Naming Survey to isolatie your brand position before going into your marketing campaign.

Attracting attention is what we do with our 25 and 50 Keyword SEO packages and our Social Media Branding campaigns. These take TIME. You have to persist to get to the top of search engines such as Google and Bing!
