Alessia Cara

Alessia Cara, Local Canadian Talent

Alessia Caracciolo (born July 11, 1996), known professionally as Alessia Cara, is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Brampton, Ontario. She is now 26 years old!

When she was only 13 years of age, she started posting covers of songs that she performed and posted on YouTube. This produced a big following for her!

After uploading acoustic covers of songs such as “Love Yourself” and “Sweater Weather” online, Alessia signed with EP Entertainment and Def Jam Recordings in 2014, and released her debut single the following year.

“Here” peaked at #19 on the Canadian Hot 100 Chart, and was a sleeper hit in the US, peaking at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

Following her initial success, Cara’s debut studio album, “Know-It-All” (2015), peaked at #8 on the Canadian Albums Chart, and at #9 on the Billboard 200. In 2016, the album’s third single, “Scars to Your Beautiful,” peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2017, Cara collaborated with DJ and producer Zedd on the single “Stay,” which certified seven-times platinum in Canada, and featured on rapper Logic’s song, “1-800-273-8255.”

Cara has received nominations for 4 Grammy Awards, winning Best New Artist in 2018.  She was nominated for Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the 2019 Latin Grammys for her collaboration with Juanes.

Her second studio album, “The Pains of Growing” (2018), saw moderate commercial success of the singles “Growing Pains” and “Trust My Lonely.” The album won the Juno Award for Album of the Year and for Pop Album of the Year. She also took home the Juno Award for Songwriter of the Year.

Alessia Cara was born in Mississauga Ontario, about 40 minutes west of DIT Web Solutions‘ Scarborough office. My business partner, Rob, will love that she speaks fluent Italian. As a child, she wrote poetry and performed in theatre. She began playing guitar at the age of 10, teaching herself how to play various songs.

She started posting songs on her YouTube channel at the age of 13. Everyone take note of that!
This song has 126 million views and an amazing heartfelt message in the song “Scars To Your Beautiful:”

Cara felt motivated to make the song after viewing an episode of “Botched.” In an interview with Idolator’s Mike Wass, Cara commented about her process behind the song.

“Basically, that song is about body image. It’s directed at women, but I think men can relate to it as well. It’s just a song about these things that certain women go through on a daily basis in order to feel loved or in order to love themselves. I think that’s such a thing that goes on in today’s world. These weird things are instilled in us. You know? They tell us that we’re not good enough or that there’s only one kind of beauty.

“This song basically is contradicting that idea. It’s saying, ‘Well, if the world doesn’t like how you look then they should change. They should change their perspective. You don’t have to change yourself.’ I mean, I thought that was important, you know, just to put out next. Especially because I think that’s kind of the direction we’re going in.

“Now, ‘Scars To Your Beautiful,’ is basically about embracing yourself and finally coming to that conclusion where you feel love, and you can love yourself.  The point of the song is to reach as many women, or people, as possible.”
